…then YES!  You are a candidate!

Once you’ve experienced sedation dentistry, you’ll never be afraid to go to the dentist again!  At Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney and Matthews, we are committed to making your visit with us a pleasant one.  Our superbly trained team of dedicated doctors, hygienists, and assistants are here to serve you and your dental needs.

Sedation dentistry has become quite common.  Many offices now offer various forms of “sedation dentistry”.  Let us explain how Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney and Matthews can bring the latest technology in sedation dentistry to you.

There are 3 primary ways in which sedation may be administered in a dental office.  These are intravenous (IV) conscious sedation, enteral conscious sedation and inhalational conscious sedation.  The best method for any patient is based on their individual needs.  Due to the additional training required to provide these 3 forms of sedation, most dentists are unable to offer them.  Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney and Matthews can!

  • IV Sedation:  Also known as moderate conscious sedation, it is most commonly used by oral surgeons and dentists with specific training and certification.  With this type of sedation, medications are administered directly into the bloodstream.  The greatest advantage of IV sedation is that the level of sedation can be adjusted to the needs of the individual patient.  IV sedation is not commonly used in dental offices because of the advanced training required and strict requirements for certification.  In fact, Dr. George A. Betancourt is among 1.5% of general dentists in North Carolina licensed to perform these procedures by the State Board of Dental Examiners!  Choosing this route of sedation will require you to have someone drive you to and from your sedation visit.
  • Enteral Conscious Sedation:  Also known as orally administered sedation, this method involves taking a pill. While the amount of sedation achieved with this method varies among individuals, many of our patients find this method to be sufficient for decreasing anxiety levels and providing them with a relaxing, pleasant experience during their dental treatment.  Choosing this route will require you to have someone drive you to and from your sedation visit.
  • Inhalational Conscious Sedation:  Also known as nitrous oxide or “laughing gas”.  It is easily administered and the most frequently used sedation method in dentistry.  The advantage of this form of sedation is that the effects quickly reverse and patients are able to drive themselves to and from their dental appointments.

The advanced training and experience of our practice allows Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney and Matthews to offer the very best in sedation dentistry.  We understand this may be a significant step for each individual in reaching their goal of optimal oral health and that beautiful smile they have always wanted.  The doctors of Advanced Dentistry of Blakeney and Matthews are here to provide the very best support and education to our patients.   Call today for an appointment or complimentary consultation!

If the case or anxiety level of the patient is severe enough. We can bring in a dental anesthesiologist to provide general anesthesia.

In this situation, the anesthesiologist will provide medications that will put you completely asleep while your dental work is being completed.

Choosing this route will require you to have someone drive you to and from your sedation visit.
